We are well-wishers from diverse backgrounds that were brought together after watching a clip about a group of women taking care of 71 children in such very difficult circumstances. The one thing we had in common was the desire to make life easier for these children and create a better life for them. Three main countries were represented - Zimbabwe where the kids and caregivers are, South Africa and UK. We were not the only ones who responded; help for these kids came from corporates, individuals and groups from all over the world.

Our initiative is called Mt Hampden Kids. We were brought together by the journalists that first aired the story. This grouping was created for easier communication and coordination whilst the journalists were covering the story. The group stayed together to ensure continued support and resource mobilisation after the journalists had done a follow-up story marking the end of their hands-on involvement. For transparency and coordinated mobilisation of resources, we have a committee.

This approach is intended to create accountability and transparency for the donations that we mobilise and easier communication and distribution of donations. We have people directly in touch with the caregivers.
